Eine unüberschaubare Zahl von Anordnungen reglementierte fortan ihr Leben: Sie mußten Schulen und Universitäten verlassen, wurden aus dem öffentlichen Dienst und der Wehrmacht entfernt, erhielten keine Heiratserlaubnis. NS-Rasseideologen versuchten immer wieder, sie in die Vernichtungspolitik gegen die Juden einzubeziehen, und erwogen alternativ, sie zu sterilisieren oder zu ghettoisieren. Als die sogenannten Mischlinge 1943/44 zur Zwangsarbeit eingezogen wurden, fürchteten sie daher, nun das Schicksal der Juden zu teilen.
